What causes cavities and how can we avoid them?

If you’ve ever had to have a filling at the dentist, you’ll know that having cavities is no fun. Cavities, or holes in the teeth, are caused by tooth decay which is commonly related to diet and oral hygiene habits.

After we eat or drink, bacteria in our mouth feeds on the sugars in our food, producing acids that, over time, can break down the surface of the teeth, leaving them vulnerable to decay. This can happen not only to adult teeth, but baby teeth as well; that’s why it’s so important to teach our little ones the importance of healthy foods and good brushing habits, such as brushing after breakfast and before bed, as well as regular check-ups at the dentist.

Another secret weapon in the fight against tooth decay and cavities is, you guessed it – probiotics. Studies have found that probiotics can reduce the rate and progression of cavities in young children; by maintaining the balance of good bacteria in the mouth, your littlie’s tooth and gum health will be extra-protected.

Luckily, you can take the hard work out with Little Gnashies probiotic toothpaste! With THREE strains of scientifically formulated probiotics, your little one will have fresh breath, shiny, clean teeth, and an advantage when it comes to the fight against tooth decay and cavities.
